(6/7) Employers Don’t Feel Equipped to Support Mental Health Conditions

According to new research, only 29% of employers feel “very confident” in accommodating employees’ mental health conditions, and a similar number (28%) have that level of confidence when it comes to accommodating drug addicted workers. Employers also identified top challenges they face in accommodating mental health issues: beliefs/concerns that employees hide their condition, a lack of knowledge to recognize mental health conditions, and prejudices against people with mental health problems. More encouraging, many employers are incorporating behavioral health programs into the company culture to help break down stigmas and encourage employees to seek the help they need. Offering no or little mental health support is a lose-lose proposition, costing employers in terms of turnover, poor work performance, and other issues. Accommodations that help boost employees’ overall health and productivity are likely to save both time and money in the long run. Read the full article.
