(9/26) As Overtime Rule Drops, Experts Recommend Audits, Training

If you’ve waited to plan for federal overtime regulation changes, don’t panic. Experts suggest a few tips:

  • Prepare to pay newly eligible workers overtime; or give them a raise to put them over the new $35,568 annual threshold.
  • Conduct self-audits to see if any employees are incorrectly classified as exempt or non-exempt.
  • Remember that new overtime exemptions apply only to white-collar professions in various positions, including executive, administrative, and professional workers. However, exemptions are not determined by title. An exempt employee must meet the pay threshold and perform at least one executive, administrative, or professional duty.
