There has been a lot of talk since the start of the pandemic about destigmatizing mental health issues, but a new survey suggests companies have more work to do:
- 70% of workers said their employers could improve their efforts to reduce mental health stigmas.
- More than half said they have felt mentally unwell during the past year and said there were several barriers to care including cost.
- About a third of workers said their employer doesn’t effectively promote mental health resources or offerings.
These survey results suggest that work on destigmatizing mental health issues isn’t one and done. Employers need programs and efforts that are active year-round and promoted repeatedly. Management needs to make it clear that there will no negative consequences for admitting they need help with their mental health issues.
