Are you losing good employees because of poor leaders? Kyle Kirchhoff, author of The Economics of Emotion, says that people often leave jobs because of their feelings about their boss. In a recent interview, he said that ‘meanness’ is no longer seen as an acceptable tradeoff for ‘smarts’ in leaders. Increasingly, Kirchhoff said, companies are concerned with creating a positive work environment for all. As a result, more organizations seek and value ‘emotionally intelligent’ leaders, those who recognize emotion in themselves and how it affects their communication with others.
