If you have workers who are contract/temporary personnel, gig workers, or come in on an as-needed basis workers, this could have a negative impact on them:
- Insecure income earners have a 50% increase in poor overall health and psychological distress compared to salary earners.
- Non-salaried workers tend to have increased health risks.
- Black and Hispanic workers with insecure incomes were more likely to report poor health than their white counterparts.
- Higher hourly pay rates reduced the negative impact on workers’ health, but they didn’t remove these problems entirely.
The authors suggest that physical and mental health problems are likely to be even greater for COVID-era non-salaried worker.
