(10/7): ‘Just Text Me’: New Way to Interview

Texting isn’t just for teens and kids anymore. It’s moving into the hiring arena, and more employers are using it to connect with job candidates, especially millennials and Gen Zers. Some tips for successful text hiring include:

  • Consider the position. Limit texting to more junior positions.
  • Talk, then text. Speak to candidates via phone first, then get their permission to text. The phone conversation is important to establishing a personal connection.
  • Have a text message policy. This should detail how and when to start contact via text. For instance, state that all texts must be professional – no slang or abbreviations.
  • Save texts. Keep these as you would any records or written communications. This will protect the company if there is a complaint or question later on.
