Women in the workplace are hurting according to a new survey:
- Working women’s level of depression has increased 83% since February, compared to 36% for men.
- Anxiety among women has increased 52% since February, versus 29% for their male counterparts.
These kinds of numbers aren’t unusual, as many surveys are finding similar results. The reality is clear: employees are experiencing unprecedented levels of stress, anxiety, depression, and burnout. However, this particular survey suggests the especially negative impact the pandemic has had on women.
The survey authors suggest that women may be experiencing more mental issues is because they often cared for children – including help with schooling – and other family members during the pandemic, all while juggling work responsibilities.
Moving forward, employers should look at how they can help workers who have multiple caregiving responsibilities, as well as those who are reporting or showing signs of stress, anxiety, and burnout.
