Report: Unhappy Doesn’t Mean Unmotivated

By Joanne Kaldy / July 17, 2019

You can (and should) keep highly motivated but disengaged employees from walking out the door.

Just because employees are disengaged doesn’t mean they aren’t motivated. That is the conclusion of a new report, which found that 26% of employees are motivated but unhappy. After studying over 30,000 employees, the study authors found that, while these workers are disengaged, they are highly motivated and give 100% at work. However, they don’t recommend their company as a great organization to work for, and you could lose them and their productivity if you don’t act now.

By Joanne Kaldy / July 15, 2019

Help family caregivers for loyal, productive, healthy teams.

Look around your organization. With around 1 in 6 working Americans currently serving as an unpaid, primary caregiver to a family member, there is a good chance that some of these people work with you. If you think this none of your business, think again. Unpaid caregivers often come to work tired, stressed out, and emotionally exhausted, despite their best efforts to juggle work and personal life successfully. You need to be prepared to understand and support employees who are also caregivers to ensure a productive, engaged, innovative workforce.

Implications of Immigration Reform on Caregiver Workforce

By Joanne Kaldy / July 10, 2019

Consider what you can and must do to comply with the law while maintaining access to a pool of qualified workers.

Finding people to work as certified nursing assistants (CNAs) and other frontline positions in post-acute and long-term care facilities is challenging at best. This challenge could intensify in the coming months and years, as efforts to reform U.S. immigration policies threaten to further shrink the pool of potential workers in healthcare. Immigrants make up 1 in 4 direct-care workers nationwide; and in recent years, organizations have increasingly looked to immigrants to address their workforce shortages.  What do you need to know to avoid staffing shortages as immigration reform moves forward?

Report: Workers Want, Need Tech Skills But Often Lack Training

By Joanne Kaldy / July 8, 2019

Increasingly, employees judge their employer by how much tech skills training the company offers.

Providing workers with tech skills maximizes their productivity and confidence to do their jobs. However, a 2019 Tech Skills Report suggests that many people don’t have the skills they need and that the training they’re getting isn’t enough. While employers may assume that everyone is tech-savvy in the digital age, the truth is that there is a serious technical skills gap that companies need to fill.

According to the survey results, 80% of U.S. workers say they use technology to perform their job, but nearly a third (28%) don’t think they have the critical tech skills needed to work effectively. Part of the problem is that only half of respondents (55%) said their employer provides tech training for job-relevant tools; and 19% said they haven’t received any tech training at all.  Another issue is that the training employees are receiving isn’t enough or the right kind. Respondents who have received training also  say they want more. This especially true of millennials, 21% of whom say that they are interested in learning more. Half of working Americans of all ages say they regret not getting more tech training from their employer.
