(6/14) 5 Strategies to Motivate Burned-Out Workers

By Joanne Kaldy / June 14, 2019

Sometimes even the best of workers feels burned out. You can help them recharge, but it takes more than a long-weekend or a spa day. Consider some steps to help employees go from burned-out to shining brightly:

1.       Create a career development pipeline to help workers, especially front-line staff such as nursing assistants and housekeeping staff, move up the ladder and increase income.

2.      Develop a high-potential program to recognize and reward high performers for their achievements, while helping them build stronger resumes.

3.      Create an active employee recognition program. Consider an “Employee Spotlight” to honor outstanding employees and efforts on a regular basis. Promote the program, and keep it front and center.

4.      Help employees fulfill personal career goals. Provide coaching, mentoring, and networking opportunities for staff to gain advice and guidance from leaders—over lunch meetings or regular meet-and-greets.

5.      Plan ahead. Be realistic, but create a picture of the future that gives employees confidence in your organization and the healthcare industry and helps them identify and pursue new skills or competencies they will need to thrive.
