Increasingly, employees judge their employer by how much tech skills training the company offers. Providing workers with tech skills maximizes their productivity and confidence to do their jobs. However, a 2019 Tech Skills Report suggests that many people don’t have the skills they need and that the training they’re getting isn’t enough. While employers may assume that everyone is tech-savvy in the digital age, the truth is that there is a serious technical skills gap that companies need to fill. According to the survey results, 80% of U.S. workers say they use technology to perform their job, but nearly a third (28%) don’t think they have the critical tech skills needed to work effectively. Part of the problem is that only half of respondents (55%) said their employer provides tech training for job-relevant tools; and 19% … [Read more...] about Report: Workers Want, Need Tech Skills But Often Lack Training

Monitoring Technology and Data: Pump Up Productivity While Protecting Privacy
Companies are looking beyond surveys to high-tech tools to assess employee attitudes. Increasingly, companies are collecting data about what employees do and say. According to one recent survey, 22% of organizations worldwide use employee-movement data, 17% monitor work-computer-usage data, and 16% use calendar-usage data. While employers say this monitoring technology enables them to improve productivity and engagement, employees often resent what they see as an invasion of their privacy. HR can play a key role in ensuring that monitoring is done appropriately and that employees understand what is being done and why. Historically, companies have used formal, large-scale employee surveys to assess how employees feel about their jobs and the workplace. However, these are generally time- and labor-intensive and offer limited—and not always completely candid—insights. Data collected from monitoring technology can provide more specific insights about how employees feel about their … [Read more...] about Monitoring Technology and Data: Pump Up Productivity While Protecting Privacy
