Move the Compliance Needle with Effective Training

By Joanne Kaldy / February 24, 2020

The right training can ensure that your workers walk the walk on compliance today, tomorrow, and into the future.

Lying, cheating, and stealing in the workplace are all too common. When people get caught, they often make excuses for their behavior, deny it, or blame others. When you implement a compliance training program that is more than an obligation and that reaches employees on a real, personal level, a culture shift results. The foundation of an effective compliance program includes six key elements: executive commitment, accountability and ownership, training and support, end-user engagement, alignment, and value measurement.

Don’t Forget Gen X When Planning Wellness, Other Benefit Offerings

By Joanne Kaldy / January 29, 2020

The middle generation brings autonomy, loyalty, and a desire to make a real contribution. Keep them engaged with a few key offerings.

Your Gen X employees expect you to take an active role in their health, according to a new survey. In fact, nearly three-quarters (70%) think their employer should increase their efforts to support holistic health, and 90% say management should be responsible for helping employees address stress. The survey results are an important reminder that wellness benefits are not one-size-fit all and that customization is key to attracting and retaining good workers.

Gen Xers, those individuals born between 1965 and 1984, express concerns that companies don’t address their specific needs. A vast majority (85%) report that everyone at their company is offered the same health and wellness resources/benefits; and they say this affects their feelings about their employers. For instance, more than half say they have “seriously considered” leaving their job because of stress. Over three-quarters (84%) say they would be more involved in wellbeing benefits if they included more relevant programs.

How to Tackle the Human Challenges of the Digital Workplace

By Joanne Kaldy / January 24, 2020

Technology promotes productivity, but it also can boost burnout if it adds time-consuming steps and reduces personal interactions.

It wasn’t too long ago that workers were tethered to desktop computers, and laptops and mobile devices were unheard of. In fact, today’s digital workplace bears little resemblance to the same space 20 years ago. All of these changes have improved productivity and efficiency, but they also have caused stress. According to one study, 61% of employees think that the pace of change in technology is too fast; and more than half worry about losing their job due to automation or because they lack the skills to keep up. As software and other digital tools evolve, HR and other leaders need to keep employees trained, engaged, and motivated. By keeping their eyes on the prize, they can prevent the stress and burnout that lead to turnover.

New Report: Direct Care Workforce Moving from Crisis to Emergency

By Joanne Kaldy / January 22, 2020

With a huge jump in job openings, aging caregivers, and turnover at an all-time high, now is the time to prioritize ways to attract more people to caregiver professions.

Forget the red flags; it’s time to send up the flares. According to a new report from PHI, 8.2 million direct care job openings are expected by 2028, with not nearly enough strategies for filling them. From 2018 to 2028, the direct care workforce is expected to add more jobs than another other profession—including nursing, food service, and software development. Home care will have nearly four times the number of openings as nursing homes and residential care. Read on for more information from this report and how the authors suggest the industry can work to meet demands.
