(1/13) Survey: Employers Plan to Expand Financial Well-Being Benefits

According to a recent survey, employers are prioritizing workers’ financial health in 2020. Among the findings:

  • 70% say they already offer financial wellbeing benefits, and more than half say they expect to expand these this year.
  • About half of employers say the have recently launched new financial wellbeing programs.
  • 59% of HR respondents say they are spending more time supporting financial wellbeing benefits.
  • More than one-fifth of respondents offer stock purchase programs. Others offer budgeting assistance, debt consolidation services, and tuition assistance.

Paid parental leave for new moms and dads is gaining attention and support throughout the world. As more organizations get on board, they are implementing creative ways to support their employees. Among them:

  • Staying connected to employees on leave. They schedule times to touch base; and they identify opportunities for workers on leave to keep up with training opportunities and connect with their colleagues.
  • Addressing “maternity bias.” Moms on leave often worry that their careers will suffer because of their time away from work. Many employers are creating a supportive environment with standard practices for workers’ return to work that help eliminate fears and anxieties.
  • Including parents on leave (and their children) in company events such as parties and picnics.

It can last well into January and negatively impact productivity and morale if you don’t do something about it. Here are a few steps you can take to go from funk to fantastic as 2020 gets underway:

  • Encourage specific plans, or implementation intentions, that turn goals into detailed actions and tasks that you can put on your calendar.
  • Use social comparisons (with those who are doing better or worse than you) as motivations spurring you to greater heights.
  • Don’t expect perfection. Don’t give up or get discouraged if you make missteps or find yourself falling into old habits. Just regroup and keep moving forward.
